AMUL THE TASTE OF INDIA



Every year 26th of November is being observed as National Milk Day (NMD) to mark the birth anniversary of the Father of the White Revolution in India, Dr.Verghese Kurien. To commemorate this beautiful moment the Management and the staff of Bosco Boys Home decided to take the boys to the Amul’s Virar Dairy for an educational cum exposure visit on 24th November, 2018.
Amul Dairy has setup a state of art dairy near Virar. It covers 11 acres of lush green land surrounded by the mountains and jungles of Virar. The Dairy is set up at a total cost of Rs. 180 crore, processing an installed capacity of 1 million litres milk per day with a provision to expand upto 2 million litres in the near future. The main work carried by this plant is to serve the consumers of Mumbai City and its suburbs with fresh milk and milk products. The purpose of this visit was to show to the boys the various new techniques used in the production and marketing of the milk used today and to make them aware of the importance of milk in ones daily diet.  The resource person for the tour was Mr. Sandeep Shah a representative from the Amul’s Virar Dairy.
The full programme was divided into two parts: the first part consisted of animated games conducted by the staff of Amul at the premises of Bosco Boys Home and the second part involved an educational trip to the Virar Dairy of Amul. While explaining to the boys the production and working of the Diary plant Mr. Shah shared, “The Amul-Virar Dairy is very unique in its design and its concept. The 50,000 litres per hour integrated milk reception, processing and on-line pasteurization, standardization and homogenization facility is first of its kind in India. Traffic Management System is used for operations such as conveying of crates, robotic crate, filling of milk pouches from high-speed milk packing machines, each with 160 pouches per minute. There is also an on-line check weighers on milk packing lines which are controlled through a centralized computer monitoring system. The automatic pick and place system of milk pouch filling in crates used here is not only first in India but also in the world. The ice cream plant one of the largest in India is fully automated to process 2.0 lac liters ice cream per day with wide range of products.”
Mr. Dorando Camara the Warden for the boys said, “Educational visits are very important for every student as it provides as a clear picture of the product. The objective of this visit was to study and understand the production and operation of Amul Dairy. Amul was formed in the year 1946 and today it goes without saying that Amul is one of the leading food/dairy brands in India. Amul is the pride not only of Gujarat but also of entire country. It was a great opportunity for the students to visit one of the most renowned Dairy Industries in India and acquire knowledge about the production line.”


The boys also visited The Dairy Museum, which is located within the campus of Amul Dairy. The Museum has a Photo Gallery and Auditorium. The Photo Gallery gave them the glimpses of the genesis of Amul and its growth in a pictorial form. They were also shown a presentation explaining to them about the achievements of Amul and the workings of the pioneers who were behind the idea of Amul.

“It was a wonderful and interactive visit, where we understood the production processes, products and operation of one of the best examples of co- operative achievement in the developing economy. I am so proud to be part of this great family of Amul: The taste of India.” Sujal Kawada one of the boy shared.
At the end of the programme all children’s were served fresh ice-cream and lassi which they enjoyed it very much.

CARING AND SHARING WITH LOVE

          The students from Mary Immaculate, Borivali came to Bosco Boys’ Home (BBH) respectively on the 19 th and 20 th of December with celebrate and spread the spirit of Christmas to the boys of the orphanage. The trip was organised by the Management and staff of Mary Immaculate Primary and High School section. It was divided into two batches on the 19 th the Primary section and on the next day the Secondary section. The students were accompanied by Sr. Payal, MSA and the other staffs from the school. The students started with an introduction by playing an icebreaker game wherein they got to know the names of the boys. Then the programme started with the pictorial description, carol singing and a skit beautifully enacting the Nativity of the Lord explaining to the boys about the real meaning of Christmas. FAREWELL TO BR. SHELDON DIAS SDB AND WELCOME TO DN. ROMERO D’SOUZA SDB

Farewell to Sheldon & Welcome to Romero Our boys were enjoying the company of Br. Sheldon for the past 2 weeks. He really made our life in Bosco Boys Home interesting. We had a farewell party for Br. Sheldon Dias who has opted to work for the mission of Gambia in Africa. He studied in the Salesian school till the 8 th Standard after which he was selected and decided to be an Aspirant at Don Bosco Lonavala. He stayed there from 9 th to 12 th (HSC). He did his Pre novitiate in Goa and his Novitiate in Nashik where he expressed his feelings to the novice master of the missions; but was asked to finish his philosophy and then decide which he completed at Nashik. After which he was send to do his Practical Training in Gujarat, Narukot. The house catered to the tribals of the region, there he enjoyed working though at times life was hard and the boys appreciated his presence.
