PRACTICAL APPROACH TO LEARNING ELECTRONICS

On 28 th September, 2018 from 9.30am to 11.30 am Awareness session on use of Electronics was organized by Students of the Thakur College of Engineering and Technology (Dept. of Electronics and Telecommunication) for the children of Bosco Boys Home, Borivali. The resource person for this workshop was Prof. Mrs. Lochan Jolly. In all, 25 children from Bosco Boys Home took part in this informative and educative session. The objective of conducting this workshop was to facilitate the children with hands-on experience with the setups of small experiments so to familiarize themselves with the electronic components and its outputs and to create passion and excitement in the young minds and to develop their interest towards the field of Electronics. FUTURE ENGINEERS TAKING BABY STEPS

On 28 th      September, 2018 from 12 pm to 1.30 pm the students and the management of Thakur College of Engineering and Technology, Kandivli (TCET), as part of their educational and outreach activity invited the boys of Bosco Boys Home for an educative visit to their Institute. The College council was responsible for organizing this event by which they could help out the boys of Bosco Boys Home and give them an opportunity and a platform to nurture, learn and gain knowledge through this and get accustomed to the various Engineering fields of Mechanical Department, Telecommunications, Electronics, Digital and Automobile Engineering. BOSCO BOYS TAKE PART IN ZAPHYRE COLLEGE FEST

On 27 th September, 2018 Thakur College of Engineering and Technology, Kandivli celebrated their College fest ‘Zaphyre.’ The Students’ Council from Thakur College Engineering over the years has been organizing Zaphyre: an occasion that brings togetherness, fun, knowledge, creativity, innovation and freshness in all the aspects of our life and this year to be a part of their celebration, the Rotoract Club of the Institute invited the boys from Bosco Boys Home, Borivali to their festivity.   The Zaphyre, the Annual Cultural Festival of TCET since its inception has always brought out the best talents in the college to the fore. Catechism Students of std 7 th and 8 th along with their teachers visited the Borivli-based Bosco Boys Home (BBH) orphanage on September 23 . The purpose of the visit was to know about the life of the orphan children who lived in the home and how they were brought up with love and guided towards the right path by the Salesians living with them. The Catechism students began their visit by having a session on “The Different Calls We Get in Life” taken by Cl. Jittin Mathew. Followed by a brief information on the orphanage and the boys staying there. Then Dn. Romero D’Souza shared with them the importance of prayer and been faithful to God in one’s life. Bosco Boys Home receives the ‘Best Node of Homelink Network’ Award

Bosco Boys Home, Borivali from Mumbai Province was honored with ‘Best Node of Homelink Network’ in Mumbai Province on 13 th September 2018 at the Don Bosco National Forum for the Young at Risk 13 th Annual National Seminar 2018 held at the Provincial House: Nitika Don Bosco, Kolkata. Bosco Boys Home, Borivali was chosen out of 22 centers for this esteemed award. Fr. Corlis Gonsalves, the Director and Mr. Datta Gade, Node Coordinator of CHILD MISS of the Bosco Boys Home accepted the Award. AN EDUCATIVE WORKSHOP ON GOOD TOUCH AND BAD TOUCH

On 20 th September from 3pm to 4pm an educative awareness workshop on 'Good Touch and Bad Touch' was organized by the staff of Bosco Boys Home Boys, Borivali for the 32 children belonging to the classes of 5 th to 10 th of the orphanage. The programme was coordinated by Eustace Fernandes the Education in Charge with the help of 2 staff members Mr. Datta Gade and Mr. Mathew George. It is the growing concern among parents and teachers about the safety of children which has forced Mumbai schools to drop their tight-lipped approach towards sex education and teach the children about safe and unsafe touches. Every single day, the media reports cases where young children, both boys and girls, are sexually abused by an adult around them. Every child needs to be taught that their body belongs to them and they have a right to protect it. AN EDUCATIVE TOUR TO HYATT REGENCY

Batch number 34 of the Hotel Management department of the Bosco Boys Home and Technical Institute, Borivli, had their field trip cum educational visit to Hotel HYATT REGENCY , Mumbai. Hyatt was founded by Jay Pritzker in 1957 and is among the leading International Hotels in the world. In all 15 students participated in this exposure, which was co-ordinated by William Sequeira, instructor of the Facility Management department of Bosco Boys Home and Technical Institute and Mrs. Alisha Pinto the Training Manager of the Hyatt Regency. During the exposure, the students were guided through the various departments of the hotel like the food production, sewage plant water and more. The students were thrilled to see the splendour and grandeur of the hotel. ALONE WE CAN DO SO LITTLE BUT TOGETHER WE CAN DO SO MUCH.

As part of internship program 7 First year BMS Students from K.E.S Shroff College, Kandivali visited Bosco Boys Home, Borivali from 9 am to 10.30 am to conduct various creative activities for the children of the orphanage.   The volunteers began by having one to one communication with the boys. Some prefered teaching; while others conducted creative activities like drawing and painting. Fr. Corlis Gonsalves, the Director of Bosco Boys Home, Borivali, who was very supportive and gave them the approval to visit the orphanage said, “Social workers are a part of the few who do care. Exposure visit to Apex Cancer Centre

“At the end of the day you will not remember the person with the most beautiful face but you will remember the person with the most beautiful heart and soul.” Keeping this in mind, the staff and management of the HCG Apex Cancer Centre, Borivali (West) invited the children of Bosco Boys Home, Borivali to their hospital on 15 th September, 2018 for celebrating the auspicious Ganpati festival from 3 pm to 5pm. The 35 children of the orphanage were accompanied by 4 staff members and Cl. Jittin Mathew. This was the first year ‘HCG Apex Cancer Centre’ was celebrating the festival in their organization and to make it special this indoor activity was arranged for the boys on this auspicious festival. The trip consisted of Ganpati Darshan in the hospital, session on Health and Hygiene, Drawing competition, Tattoo making and return gifts and snacks for the children. A GREAT WAY TO CHILL OUT

The occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi brought forth a well-deserved break for the boys of Bosco Boys Home in Borivli, as twenty- two boys from the Home, enjoyed a two and a half day outing at Boscowadi from September 13 to September 15, and while the rest of the boys enjoyed a fun filled home holidays. The boys were patiently awaiting for the Ganesh Holidays and were literally counting the days as the festivity started to commence. The boys were accompanied by the staff namely Matthew George, Dorando Camara, the counsellor Meena Kini, Cl. Jittin Mathew and Dn. Romero D’Souza. This picnic was specially arranged with the help of the benefactors for those boys of the orphanage who could not go to their home for some reasons. The outing was filled with sight-seeing which included the visit to the Church of Our Lady of Sea and the beautiful Uttan Beach. PLAYING WITH COLORS.

Keeping in mind that creative activities like painting help in the development of the brain and it boosts creativity and makes children more imaginative. the staff and management of Bosco Boys Home, Borivali along with the help of volunteers from NGO: U&I organized a drawing competition for the 55 boys of the orphanage on 12 th September 2018. Painting has many benefits, and it is both constructive and enjoyable. One of the reason for this competition was that children nowadays spend a lot of time watching TV. While creative activities like painting can direct their energy into something constructive, they can also act as a therapy, and help children relax and de-stress. And since art does not have any rules and regulations, it helps the children to cherish the joy of making something which is uniquely theirs.   The theme for the drawing competition was Christmas and New Year. SHE MAKES THE WORLD BRIGHT, BUT STRUGGLES TO SEE THE LIGHT.

On 8 th September, 2018, during the morning assembly around 9 am to 10.30 am, a double celebrations began at Bosco Boys Home, Borivali. The boys of Bosco Boys Home came collectively in a bid to promote awareness on the welfare of a girl child and to commemorate ‘International Girl Child day’ as well to celebrate the birthday of ‘Mother Mary’ as all the Catholics around the world celebrated the ‘feast of Our Lady of Nativity’. The program began with a short prayer service wherein the Medical Nurse Mrs. Annie Dias invited boys to pray for their mother/Aunty/sister/grandmother and particularly for the girl child who are rundown from their basic rights and are prey of inequality in the society. In many countries across the world, teacher's day is a special day where teachers of schools, colleges, and universities are honored specially.
