PLAYING WITH COLORS.

Keeping in mind that creative activities like painting help in the development of the brain and it boosts creativity and makes children more imaginative. the staff and management of Bosco Boys Home, Borivali along with the help of volunteers from NGO: U&I organized a drawing competition for the 55 boys of the orphanage on 12th September 2018.

Painting has many benefits, and it is both constructive and enjoyable. One of the reason for this competition was that children nowadays spend a lot of time watching TV. While creative activities like painting can direct their energy into something constructive, they can also act as a therapy, and help children relax and de-stress. And since art does not have any rules and regulations, it helps the children to cherish the joy of making something which is uniquely theirs.
The theme for the drawing competition was Christmas and New Year. The children were asked to be at their at creative best and the volunteers helped them to do the best. The themes were selected keeping in mind the positivity which comes through these two occasions and fun and enjoyment which covers these two periods of time. The kids thoroughly enjoyed the competition, there were splash paints on the papers and the children messed around with their hands full of colours and paint in zigzag strokes on paper.
One of volunteer Prinyaka Shah said, “The more you encourage your little ones to explore their creativity, the more pleasantly surprised you will be. Just leave a child with a blank sheet of paper and some colours –you will get to witness your little Da Vinci come alive. The creative talent in children is infinite and amazing, so much so that even the entire universe may seem like a small canvas to them.”

The winner of the drawing competition, Aryan Yadav said, “The more I play with colours on paper, the more I can experience the beauty of art and creativity. Expressing themselves through painting allows me to take part in an activity that is fun and fulfilling. It encourages me to look at situations with an open & creative mind. I apply the lessons learned through painting to various situations in my life. My critical reasoning skills also has developed better as I learn, on my own, to make decisions on what works and what doesn’t.”
