SCHOOL AWAY FROM SCHOOL

            Reflecting on the   words of St. John Bosco “Remember that education is a matter of the heart”, a discussion and presentation on “ Creating Opportunities for Marginalized Young People through Education and Vocational Training” was organised by Bosco Boys Home, (BBH) Borivali in collaboration with Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS), at BBH on 23 rd February, 2019 from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm for various Non-Governmental Organizations (N.G.O), Community Based Organizations (C.B.O), Church Community Centres (CCC) and St. Vincent de Paul Parish Communities (VDP), to come together and find a way to give today’s youth a brighter future. In all 40 participants participated in the programme. 31 from various above mentioned groups, 3 from TISS and 6 from BBH- CWC sector.   While welcoming the guests, Fr. SESSION ON EFFECTIVE TIME MANAGEMENT

The College of Social Work “Nirmala Niketan” students placed at MCGM R Ward Office for field work conducted a session on “Effective Time Management” with the boys of Bosco Boys Home, (BBH) Borivali on 21 st February, 2019 from 7.00 pm to 8.30 pm. The students from 5 th to 9 th standard were the target group for the session. The session input were given by the Moderators: Fr. Dinesh Kumar (Master’s in Social Work, second year), from Patna Archdiocese and Ms. Gayatri Dhargalkar (Bachelor’s in Social Work, third year). Deacon Romero D’souza, the Perfect of Studies welcomed the Moderators and introduced them to the students and encouraged the students to understand the importance of time and how to manage it with the expertise of the speakers with them so as to utilize their time effectively and productively.  The session was divided into 4 parts comprising of an activity, discussion on a Case study, Tips for Effective Time Management and the Barriers in Time Manage

MAKING MUMBAI: A YOUTH CONVENTION AT BBH

“Making Mumbai: A Youth Convention” was a special occasion for Youth for Unity and Voluntary Action ( YUVA) and Don Bosco’s Bosco Boys Home, (BBH) Borivali to collaborate and work for youngsters. The main aim for the programme was “Claiming Identity”. More than 650 Youngsters came together from different castes, creed, urban and rural, bastis and slums of Mumbai and gathered at Bosco Boys Home for this event on 17 February, 2019 with a need to have a vision for a better future. The theme for the gathering was “Claiming Identity.” It meant claiming our rights, our responsibilities, claiming who we are and what we are in the society. It was a whole day programme from dawn to dusk comprising of two parts a panel discussion from morning 10.00 am to 1.00 pm, followed by lunch and games in the afternoon and then a cultural programme in the evening.             The YUVA group approached Fr. RE-STAGING OF ARMAAN SAB…KA

On the 26 th of January, Bosco Boys Home, (BBH) Borivali had staged “ ARMAAN SAB…KA”, a musical play done by the boys of BBH as a sign of gratitude for their benefactors, volunteers and well-wishers, to say a Big Thank you to them for their constant love, care and support. It was based on the life of an orphan, who grew up on the streets, encounters many helping hands in his life and how after landing in BBH, fulfills his dream (armaan) of attaining happiness and freedom and overcomes his inner struggles. Many people who came to view it appreciated the play. Among them, an N.G.O named Youth for Unity and Voluntary Action (YUVA) approached and asked BBH to restage the Musical for their “ComplexCity: Connecting Experiences” programme as part of the “Culture Kaun: Expressions across the City” event held on 16 February, 2019 at Sai Baba Park Evershine Nagar, Malad. Also present were many other N.G.O's from the city of Mumbai, who came and also presented different songs

IGNORED AND INVISIBLE- SAVE THE CHILDREN

On 15 th of February, 2019 from 9.30 am to 11.00 am the N.G.O: Salaam Baalak Trust in collaboration with Bosco Boys Home, (BBH) conducted an awareness programme for the boys of BBH sensitizing to them their rights and responsibilities towards the society as part of the project “The Invisible- Save the Children.” Fr. Corlis Gonsalves the Director of BBH congratulated them for this benevolent gesture towards the most beautiful and feeble sector of the society and encouraged them to carry on this noble work passionately.   “Every child deserves the best chance for a bright future” shared Ms. Ashwini Shejwal, the program coordinator of the project for the Mumbai region; having a work experience of 12 years in the field of child protection. She along with Mr. Budhaji Jadhav (Team member) and Ms. Seema Vanarse (MIS officer) conducted this session. The theme of this session was to make these poor and abandoned children aware of their importance to the society and vice-versa

LIVE THE DREAM

       MUMBAI, FEBRUARY 13 , 2019: “There is no greater violence than to deny the dreams of children.” The words spoken by the great Kailash Satyarthi, children’s rights activist, a noble peace recipient and the founder of Bachpan Bachao Andolan inspired the 5 th standard students of VIBGYOR High School, Borivali to have an outreach cum field trip to Bosco Boys Home (BBH), and spend some quality with the children staying here at BBH on 13 th February, 2019 from 9.30am to 11am.
