FIELD TRIP VISIT TO WATERSTONES

The Batch no. 33 of the Hotel Management Department of the Bosco Boys Home and Technical Institute, Borivali had their 1st field trip visit. An educational visit to the hotel “Waterstones,” located near the International airport in Andheri ( East),Mumbai. A flagship property of Mars Enterprises and Hospitality Pvt Ltd. The Mars Group is a leading player in the food service and hospitality industry in India, promoted by Sanjay Narang. In all 25 students participated in this exposure which was well co-ordinated by Mr.William Sequeria, the instructor of the Facility Management Department of Bosco Boys Home and Technical Institute and by Miss Chetna and Denise the HR Manager of the hotel. The students were guided through the various departments of the hotel by Miss Grace from the training team of the hotel. “It was good practical approach for our students. AN OUTING TO BOSCOWADI

Boscowadi located at Gorai Beach, Sawant Wadi, has always been a picnic spot for all those who wanted to spend quality time together for having fun and some moments of laughter and get together. On August 29, the Hotel Management Batch of Bosco Boys Home and Technical Institue, Borivali, spent a memorable day at the nature-friendly resort at Boscowadi. 25 students along with the staff set out early in the morning.  The journey itself was very interesting because of the singing and other fun all along the way. The day was filled with events such as trekking, games such as football and volley ball, rain dance, swimming and to top it all with a sumptuous lunch (fried rice and manchurian) prepared for all by the Vice Principal Dn. Romero. Cora Soares, one of the staff said, “Thank you so much for the fantabulous time, we had today, as well as for the yummy and tasty lunch which added flavour to the outing.” One could see from the faces of the students that there indeed happy and

TASTE OF THE MAHARASHTRA CUISINE

Today the Batch no. 32 of the Hotel Management Department of the Bosco Boys Home and Technical Institute, Borivali had organised a “ Maharashtrian Theme Lunch” for the staff. In all 28 students participated in preparing the theme lunch under the able leadership and guidance of Cookery Teacher Sonali and Food and Beverages service lecturer Deepak Sir. The lunch was divided into 3 courses namely the starters, main course and ending with a lovely desert. The Theme Lunch is a tradition in which every batch of the Hotel Management Department prepares themselves by applying all the theoretical and practical knowledge which they acquired during the course into use. Deepak Sir added, “Through this, the batch is also evaluated before they complete their course and go for their industrial training. I AM THERE FOR YOU

Raksha Bandhan or Rakhi , is a Hindu festival centred around the tying of a thread or ornamental bracelet on the right wrist as a form of bond and ritual protection between brother and sister. The day signifies the mutual bond of love between siblings. On the 26 th of August, 2018, a group of volunteers visited Bosco Boys Home, Borivali on this sacred occasion of Rakshabandhan. Amid the sound of light instrumentals and a prayerful atmosphere, the volunters one by one began to apply tilak to the forehead of the boys and to tie the sacred thread of Rakhi to the wrist of the boys and did arati praying for their good health and long life. One of the volunteers explained, “This thread, represents love and sublime sentiments, is called the ‘Raksha Bandhan’ which means ‘a bond of protection’.” Keeping the tradition of the brother offering a gift to his sister and vows to look after her. PRAY FOR KERALA

On 24 th August, 2018 from 4.30pm to 5.30 pm a special prayer service was conducted at Bosco Boys Home, Borivali for those who have lost their lives in the rains and floods and those who continue to suffer in these natural calamities in Kerala the southern state of India, “God’s Own Country . In all 120 boys from Hotel Management, RAC, 4 wheeler, 2 wheeler and from Yamaha sector along with the staffs took part in the prayer service. The purpose of conducting this service was to remember the flood victims of Kerala state who had lost all their property and their relatives in this natural disaster. The state affected by intense rains, which led to flooding and landslides and heavy losses of human lives, numerous missing and displaced people, and extensive damage to crops and houses. AWARENESS PROGRAMME REGARDING THE USE OF FIRE EXTINGUISHER

The Management and the Staff of Bosco Boys Home and Technical Institute invited the government licence agency of Ronak Fire Industries, an ISO 9001: 2008 certified company to conduct an awareness programme for the students and boys regarding the use of fire extinguisher on 24 August, 2018 at 10am. Considering present scenario in Metro politician city of Mumbai, Fire policy has not been taken as a serious issue. The institute of Bosco Boys are more focused in empowering children and youth at vulnerable situation. In our academic study we have added a subject and practical session on safety and prevention of fire. Mr. Bruno D’Mello a resource person gave an orientation with a live demonstration and trained the students and boys regarding the use of fire extinguisher. YAMAHA - REVS YOUR HEART & DON BOSCO – LIVE YOUR DREAM

Representatives from the Yamaha Training School  (YTA)  in collaboration with Bosco Boys Home (BBH) and Technical Institute in Borivli, jointly awarded graduation certificates to 20 students of the Yamaha and two-wheeler department of the Institute on August 21.   To ensure that only the highest level of professional technicians work on Yamaha vehicles, India Yamaha Motor introduced Yamaha Technical Academy in India, in the year 2002. YTA, based on Japan's technical education system, is part of Yamaha Motor Corporation, which is in force in all countries where Yamaha is present. In this joint collaboration of BBH and Yamaha, a course was specifically designed for the poor, needy and the school dropouts of the community. The training was instituted, by the Institute, with the help of the Yamaha team, over a six-month period. STRESS MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP

A stress Management workshop was organized by NGO Prerana on Thursday, 17 th August 2018 for students of Std. 7 th to 10 th . About 80 boys and girls were present for the session from various NGOs. 12 boys from Bosco Boys Home, Borivali also attended the session along with the staff Meena Kini, the counsellor for the boys and a Clinical Psychologist by profession.    Stress produces numerous physical and mental symptoms which vary according to each individual's situational factors. These can include physical health decline as well as  depression . The process of stress management is named as one of the keys to a happy and successful life in modern society. NAVROZ MUBARAK

Parsi New Year is also known as Navroz or Jamshed-i-Nouroz. The Parsi New Year celebration marks the first day of the Parsi calendar. The festival signifies renewing spirits with love, kindness, positivity and peace, cleansing our souls from our sins and asking for repentance. The staff and the boys of Bosco Boys’ Home (BBH) in Borivali decided to use this auspicious day to wish our beloved Parsi friends Navroz Mubarak. In particular, the boys decided to celebrate this 2018, Parsi New Year with Mr. Boman Irani, the famous film and theatre personality. Mr. Boman Irani is widely known for his comedic and villain roles in  Bollywood  films but he is also famous for been a voice artist and sports photographer especially boxing. CELEBRATING DON BOSCO WITH LOVE

The boys of Bosco Boys’ Home (BBH) in Borivali celebrated Don Bosco’s birthday with the love enshrined in the spirit of Don Bosco himself. Don Bosco was a Father, Teacher and Friend to the poor and abandoned boys and we here at BBH began the day with the  tune of “All hail to Don Bosco”, with a solemn celebration of the Holy Eucharist after that breakfast and a prayer service for the technical institute. In the afternoon we had the Hotel Management Batch preparing four variety of cakes (chocolate, tuti-fruti, pineapple and banana flavours) to distribute to all the students and staff to show their love and appreciation to the institute as well as to all the Salesians working in the house who represent Don Bosco to them by their presence of joy and optimism, their availability, their example of hard work and temperance and above all their life of prayer. SARHAD

The boys of Bosco Boys' Home in Borivli celebrated Independence Day on August 15, by reflecting on the message of a play entitled 'Sarhad',written and directed by Nizamuddin Shah. The day began with the  singing of 'Sare Jahan se Accha Hindustan Hamara'. Soon after, the boys witnessed the flag-hoisting ceremony. The Chief Guest, Doctor Gautam Das, a medical officer with the BMC, stressed on the importance of peaceful co-existence. The boys were then led through a bhajan service, themed on 'peace in the world'. The boys also prayed for the deceased souls of the martyrs and soldiers who ceaselessly protect India's freedom each day.   In the evening, staff accompanied the boys to see the play 'Sarhad', which means border. The play was performed by Jannat Media Production. The play touched upon the sensitive issue of religion. It nailed home the message that where humanity, love and peace abides, there is no place for hatred.

FRIENDS OVER COFFEE AND CUPCAKE

We don't have the option of choosing our family, but we certainly can choose our friends. Friends reflect our personality, and friendships keep us on track during the tough and trying moments of our life. A group of volunteers visited Bosco Boys' Home in Borivli to celebrate the special relationship of friendship with the boys on July 31. The visitors befriended the inmates with homemade cupcakes, coffee, their friendly words and the symbolic gesture of friendship day- tying wrist bands. Friendship Day is observed on the first  Sunday of August each year.  V olunteers came forward in large numbers to meet the under privileged youth, and offer their hand of friendship to them. When asked, what made them come here to celebrate Friendship Day with the lesser privileged, when they could have chosen any other place to spend their time with friends, a volunteer said, "One of the most beautiful qualities of true friendship is to understand and to be understood.

A DAY OF FUN, LAUGHTER AND LEARNING

“True joy lies in bringing happiness to others without expecting anything in return.” Keeping this thought in mind, around 20 volunteers of the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Dwarkadas J Sanghvi College of Engineering paid a visit to the Bosco Boys’ Home in Borivli on July 29, to spread smiles to the ones who really deserved it. The volunteers had fun and educational activities planned for the kids. They started by introducing themselves so as to build a rapport with the boys. It was then followed by an ice-breaker activity wherein kids was asked to introduce themselves. At first, the boys were shy to express themselves but slowly, with some friendly games, the volunteers managed to help the boys express themselves freely. The NSS volunteers then enacted skits themed, ‘Respect for Women’, ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ and ‘Do not Drink and Drive’ to impress upon the boys the values of respect for women,  the importance of cleanliness and the dangers of substance abuse.

Visit to the National Park

1 Small Step Foundation an NGO, which takes the pledge of doing good every week sponsored the boys of Bosco Boys Home a trip to the Sanjay Gandhi National Park on July 15. 1 Small Step is a platform that enables one to do the good, she or he always wanted to do. They do it by regularly providing compassion opportunities, one of these been a trek for our boys to the National Park.   The boys were accompanied by the staff as they enjoyed their visit to the park. They were thrilled and delighted to see lions, tigers, monkeys and other wild animals and birds so closely. For most of them, this was a first time experience of being to a zoo and it was a very enriching to see their excited faces. After the tour of the zoo, the boys refreshed themselves with snacks and cold drinks. While returning back, the boys thanked 1 Small Step Foundation for this wonderful opportunity they gave them and promised them that they will also do a good deed every week to someone in need.
