Thank you Teachers….We love you.

A teacher is a friend, philosopher, and guide who holds our hand, opens our mind, and touches our heart. The contribution of a teacher cannot be ignored at all. In many countries across the world, teacher's day is a special day where teachers of schools, colleges, and universities are honored specially. The universally accepted World Teacher's Day is 5th October. In India, the Teacher's Day is celebrated on 5^th September as a ‘token of gratitude’ for all the teachers. In tune with this, on 5^th September, 2018, the boys of Bosco Boys Home and the students of the Technical Institute, Borivali articulated their gratitude and appreciation for their affectionate teachers on this auspicious day by celebrating the Teachers’ Day.

During the morning study time, the ‘Bosco Boys Home residential boys’ exhibited their talent and showed their ‘appreciation’ by preparing ‘Teachers Day card with ‘Thank you message’ for the very important role teacher’s play in their day to day life.

In the afternoon, 120 students of the Technical Institute took part in a cultural programme felicitating their teachers and management. The students had prepared a very ‘beautiful and creative backdrop’ with beautiful caption “Thank you Teachers….We love you.”  The students welcomed their ‘Sirs and Teachers’ with ‘Tikka’ invoking a beautiful aspect of Hindu culture. Father Corlis Gonsalves, the Rector of Bosco Boys Home and the Technical Institute, Borivali was the chief guest for the programme. The programme was inaugurated by lighting of lamp by Rector Fr. Corlis Gonsalves, Mr. William Sequeira representing the Hospitality department, Ms Meena the Counselor and Mr. Datta Gade from the Social Work sector. The comperes began the program with a prayer – thereafter explaining the key role of Teachers in shaping the lives of students. They highlighted the importance of ‘Teacher’s day and its rich History’. Then the students from the various departments of the Technical set-up (RAC, Electrical, 4- Wheeler, Yamaha and Hotel Management) captivated the audience with their spectacular performance. They exhibited their talents through dance, music, mimicry and skit making the day a memorable one for the teachers. The students took enormous effort to make sure that teachers enjoy every minute of this creative programme. At the end of programme one of the staff, Mr. William Sequeira entertained the audience with his ‘Old Hindi Medley’ which was well appreciated with claps and whistles by the passionate crowd.

The vote of thanks was given by Mr. Datta Gade. In his talk he highlighted that “Teachers are the real shapers of the future and building blocks of the country. They shape the student life who are ultimately the future of country. Teachers are the nation-builders by building the future of citizens living in the country.” In his brief talk he also spoke on Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan who was highly dedicated towards the teaching profession. He quoted, “This day is also devoted to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan the ‘second President of India’. He was a philosopher, scholar, teacher, and politician and his dedicated work towards education made his birthday an important day in the history of India. It is said that, once Dr. Radhakrishnan was approached by some students and requested for celebrating his birthday on 5^th of September and he replied that instead of celebrating it as my birthday only, you should celebrate it as a Teachers day to pay honor to all teachers for their great works and contributions and so we celebrate5^th September as Teachers Day in India.”

After the programme the students served all the staff and management with’ ‘masala chai’, ‘hot pastries’ ‘munchy cakes’ and sweets. Samuel D’Souza one of the student said, “Teaching is the most influential job in the world. Teachers are known to shape the mind of youth and without knowledge no one can exist in this world. Teacher imparts good value in children and turn them into responsible citizens. So, almost every country celebrates Teacher's Day.”

In the end, all teachers were appreciated by management with small gift as a ‘token of love and gratitude’.
