BOSCO FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT 2019: A MOMENT OF JOY AND TOGETHERNESS



MUMBAI, JUNE 10, 2019: Bosco Boys Home, Borivali (BBH) in collaboration with the youth of Don Bosco Parish, Borivali organised a 2-day football tournament for the children and youth of the neighbourhood on the 8th and 9th of June, 2019. The event was from dawn to dusk (9am to 6pm) divided into two categories namely: Under 16 and Open category at Don Bosco Parish and School ground.

          Teams from all over Borivali, Gorai, Malad and Kandivali joined for this fun filled extravaganza. In all 16 teams participated in each of the two categories. Bosco Boys put up two teams in the under 16 category and one team for the open category.
          The tournament was inaugurated and blessed by Fr. Corlis Gonsalves sdb, the Rector of BBH. Fr. Solomon Rapol sdb, the Rector of Don Bosco School, Borivali also graced the occasion with his presence. The tournament was one of the many initiatives undertaken by BBH to spread the charisma of Don Bosco, that is, to make the youngsters honest and responsible citizens.        

          “Football is entertaining, educative and energising. It gets all people together the young and the old specially the youth. Football brings about a feeling of togetherness.” shared Romero D’Souza after kicking off the play.
          The tournament was part of the many initiatives of the summer camp programme for the students of BBH. They participated whole heartedly and actively in the tournament seeing to the minute details as well to the hospitality by serving in various roles like ball boys and water boys. The parish youth, the Salesian Coperators as well the parishioners also collaborated with the students to make the tournament a success by energetically and enthusiastically helping in the organising of the matches, pitch preparation, sound system and the canteen.
          “I am happy and glad that we were able to organise this tournament. We managed to reach the finals of Under 16 category but little sad that we have to be contented with the Runner’s up title. This tournament was really an occasion of joy and togetherness. I hope that it continues to help us to nature a spirit of unity among us.” shared Chintu Chotelal a student from BBH, the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
          The winners for both Under 16 and Open Caterogry were Cesselin FC from Malad who defeated Bosco Boys Home in the Under 16 category with the goal margin 3-0 and in the Open Category defeated Maryland in penalties 2-0.

FAREWELL TO BR. SHELDON DIAS SDB AND WELCOME TO DN. ROMERO D’SOUZA SDB

Farewell to Sheldon & Welcome to Romero Our boys were enjoying the company of Br. Sheldon for the past 2 weeks. He really made our life in Bosco Boys Home interesting. We had a farewell party for Br. Sheldon Dias who has opted to work for the mission of Gambia in Africa. He studied in the Salesian school till the 8 th Standard after which he was selected and decided to be an Aspirant at Don Bosco Lonavala. He stayed there from 9 th to 12 th (HSC). He did his Pre novitiate in Goa and his Novitiate in Nashik where he expressed his feelings to the novice master of the missions; but was asked to finish his philosophy and then decide which he completed at Nashik. After which he was send to do his Practical Training in Gujarat, Narukot. The house catered to the tribals of the region, there he enjoyed working though at times life was hard and the boys appreciated his presence. CARING AND SHARING WITH LOVE

          The students from Mary Immaculate, Borivali came to Bosco Boys’ Home (BBH) respectively on the 19 th and 20 th of December with celebrate and spread the spirit of Christmas to the boys of the orphanage. The trip was organised by the Management and staff of Mary Immaculate Primary and High School section. It was divided into two batches on the 19 th the Primary section and on the next day the Secondary section. The students were accompanied by Sr. Payal, MSA and the other staffs from the school. The students started with an introduction by playing an icebreaker game wherein they got to know the names of the boys. Then the programme started with the pictorial description, carol singing and a skit beautifully enacting the Nativity of the Lord explaining to the boys about the real meaning of Christmas.
