OPEN SCHOOLING AT BOSCO BOYS HOME


On the 13th of June, 2019 the management and staff of Bosco Boys Home had organised a Parents meeting. The main objective of the meeting was to announce and explain to the parents about the concept of Home schooling and NIOS. Also to inform them about the progress of their child and new projects been prepared for the betterment of the children.

Fr. Corlis Gonsalves, the Director of the Institute, welcomed the parents and briefed them about the Open schooling programme and been started in BBH from the month of June. The parents were also informed about the various Child Welfare Committee (CWC) rules like opening of bank accounts, limited period of home holidays, etc.

Ms. Caroline D’Souza, who has worked for 27 years in the NIOS sphere in collaboration with Don Bosco Borivali and Wadala for NIOS and Home schooling project introduced the parents to the concept of National Institue of Open Schooling (NIOS). She explained to them the advantages along with the importance of NIOS wherein one have to choose and clear only 5 subject from a list of 25 subjects. She even shared the example of her brother who did NIOS after he had failed at the 7th standard and now is doing well in life.

Later, the parents were asked to discuss with their children and to enlist their names if interested for the programme of NIOS and OPEN Schooling. The Open schooling would be for boys above 14 years, those who find it difficult to understand and study conventional theoretical subjects but will have an option to choose more practical subjects like baking, painting, cooking.

Krishna Sharma a 13 years old boy from BBH shared, “I am very happy to join NIOS. After my 10th standard I would like to study some technical Motor mechanic course.”

“It is a nice opportunity for students to learn some skills which will benefit them for their whole life.” Said one of the parents.

             On the 24 th of November 2019, Bosco Boys Home, (BBH) Borivali had organized Children’s Day with the theme “ CHALO ASSAMAN KHO CHU LE ”, programme to appreciate the love, smile and happiness brought by the children specially the poor and abandoned to the society and to show to the little ones how much they are loved, cared and cherished by the society.    While welcoming the children, Fr.
