Work for GOD and Work for Society

It was a dream come true when we the parishioners of Nativity of Our Lord Church Kandivli East stepped out after our Sunday School class and visited Bosco Boys Home (BBH), Borivali on Sunday, 22nd September 2019.
We were a group of children from class 7th, 8th and 9th not knowing what we were expected to see here. Of course our teachers, parents and a few from the youth group were with us. Cl. Jittin Mathew sdb took us on a tour of the technical skills training section explaining the courses offered by the 5 skills training departments (4 wheeler light vehicle mechanics, 2wheeler mechanics, Electrical, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning and Hotel Management). The training courses are offered to the poorest of poor youth and school dropouts (age group 8years and above) to help them learn an employment generating skill and be able to alleviate the income level in their homes.
We then met with the children (street, orphan and single parent/guardian children –age group: 10years to18years) of BBH on the first floor. We also got to see the dormitory, music area and gym. Our teachers and youth explained the importance of hygiene and cleanliness to the children. Many children knew the answers and they were eager to respond. We felt very happy to see so many children wanting to answer questions.
Fr. Corlis Gonsalves sdb, the Director of BBH, shared words of wisdom. With real stories, he told us to think of our parents, take care of them, spend time with them and when we start working provide for them.
We left with a happy feeling and today we hold memories of Bosco Boys Home which we will cherish in the future years. Of course we will never ever forget the words of St. John (Don) Bosco quoted by Cl. Jittin: “Work for God and Work for Society”.

AD MAJOREM DEI GLORIAM

“Praise the Lord for all His wonders to me!” captures Fr. Aloysius inner sentiments as he celebrated his 60th year of the First Religious Profession on the 24th of May, 2020. He renewed his religious vows to live the Evangelical Counsels and to labor for the salvation of souls as he follows the footsteps of Jesus, our Good Shepherd, and in the spirit of our father and founder St John Bosco. Fr. Corlis Gonsalves sdb, the Rector of BBH while celebrating this moment of grace and blessing thanked the Almighty for the gift of Fr. Aloysius Furtado (Alu, as he is fondly known among his near and dear ones) to the Salesian Congregation. He thanked Fr. Alu for the inspiration and motivation he is to the younger generation and congratulated him for his faithfulness and fidelity to God for these fruitful years. Especially, for his service among the young through the gift of music and choir – the saying of St Augustine goes well with the gift of Fr. Alu being an instrument to God “singing is...

I AM THERE FOR YOU

Raksha Bandhan or Rakhi , is a Hindu festival centred around the tying of a thread or ornamental bracelet on the right wrist as a form of bond and ritual protection between brother and sister. The day signifies the mutual bond of love between siblings. On the 26 th of August, 2018, a group of volunteers visited Bosco Boys Home, Borivali on this sacred occasion of Rakshabandhan. Amid the sound of light instrumentals and a prayerful atmosphere, the volunters one by one began to apply tilak to the forehead of the boys and to tie the sacred thread of Rakhi to the wrist of the boys and did arati praying for their good health and long life. One of the volunteers explained, “This thread, represents love and sublime sentiments, is called the ‘Raksha Bandhan’ which means ‘a bond of protection’.” Keeping the tradition of the brother offering a gift to his sister and vows to look after her. The boys prayed for the volunteers. Sevak one of the boy said, “My sister stays in Kalyan a...
