Bosco Boys Home

“Life is a beautiful journey and let’s together, Fly higher!” Keeping this thought in mind, around 25 volunteers of the NGO Fly Higher India paid a visit to the Bosco Boys Home in Borivali on October 28 from 10.30 am to 1.00 pm, to spread smiles to the ones who really deserved it. The NGO Fly Higher India (FHI) is an initiative of Apmvm Foundation, a Not-for-profit organisation. Started in end of 2017, the initiative soon spread to various cities and impacted lives of thousands of children and involved hundreds of volunteers.  Its aim is   to  inculcate life skills, instil values, and imbibe confidence among the underprivileged children and youth across India. On 27 th October 2018, the NGO Samajik Vikas Kendra from Malad (East) led by the head of the Institute Mr. Sachin Mahore visited Bosco Boys Home, Borivali as part of their educational and exposure visit from 11 am to 2pm. The other staffs present were Mr. Sachin Mahore, Mrs. Kavita Rana, Mrs. Archana Rathod, Mrs. Trupti Tayde, Mrs. Sarla Nair, Mrs. Aarti Gayor the Social Development outreach worker, and the Superintendent Mrs. Sangita Karande. This meeting was organized by Mr. Datta Gade the coordinator of the Social Work department of BBH. Deacon Romero Dsouza, the Vice Principal and the Perfect of Studies of the BBH welcomed them and introduced the Management and Staff of BBH to the staff of Samajik Vikas Kendra. On 24 th October, 2018 from 9am to 5pm, Don Bosco Balprafulta, organized a Seminar ‘How to Handle Addicted Children and ‘Juvenille Justice Alliance Meet’ at Don Bosco Provincial House, Matunga. The main resource person for the programme were: Fr. Thomas Koshy the National YaR Director & Pioneer of Juvenile Justice Act, Fr. Xavier Devdas the Director of Maria Ashiana Lonavala, Dr.Sunita Shanbhag, Mr. Vijay Shankar and Dr. Asha Mukundan. Two staff Mr. Eustace Fernandes, the Educational Supervisor and Ms. Meena Kini the Counselor from Bosco Boys Home also attended the session. 85 members from 27 NGO’s from all part of Mumbai took part in this social awareness forum. The boys of the Bosco Boys Home, Borivali were introduced to Mallakhamb, a traditional  Indian  sport as a way to stay fit and healthy on October 21. It is a sport, in which a  gymnast  performs aerial  yoga  postures and  wrestling  grips in concert with a vertical stationary or hanging wooden pole, cane, or hanging rope. The word Mallakhamb itself refers to the pole used in the sport. While explaining to the boys the importance of this sport, Moreshwar Ingole, the Maalakhamb instructor said, “This is the only sport that provides optimum exercise to the entire body in the least possible time. Besides giving perfect shape and form to the body, it also gives remarkable control over the limbs. Due to continuous twisting and turning, the whole body gets messaged and every cell is rejuvenated. Dussehra is a Hindu festival that celebrates the triumph of good over evil. Dussehra is the culmination of the  Navaratr i festival. It is a nine day celebration, a major season cultural event, which includes public celebration of  c lassical and flolk dances  of Hindu culture. The boys of Bosco Boys’ Home (BBH) in Borivali also participated in this celebration which encourages the good to triumph over evil and also reminds us to win over our vices on 17 th October. As Don Bosco always told his boys to be good, to do good, to see good and to practise goodness. The boys rose to the sound of Garba music and had a Guajarati special breakfast of Dhokla for the morning. Jannat Media Production in collaboration with Bosco Boys Home, Borivali organised a workshop on Personality Development for the children of the Orphanage on 14 October.   It was an enlighting session conducted by the recourse person Ms. Pratima Karmarkar. In all there were 20 participants for the programme. Stressing the importance of developing ones personality, Ms. Karmarkar said, “Personality development grooms an individual and helps him make a mark of his/her own, Personality development goes a long way in reducing stress and conflicts and helps you develop a positive attitude in life. It helps an individual to inculcate positive qualities like punctuality, flexible attitude, willingness to learn, friendly nature, eagerness to help others.” Dn. An enlighting session on the topic Juvenile Delinquency was conducted by Dr. Chaya Shah, Adv. Aarti Shah and Ms. Sabina Gonsalves for the students of Bosco Boys Home and Technical Institue, Borivali on 12 th October 2018. In all 125 students participated in the programme. Dn. Romero D’Souza, the Vice Principal of the Institute, welcomed Dr. Chaya Shah and her team. Dn. D’Souza thanked them for their kind initiative and service offered to the institute. The session was organised as part of the many initiatives and awareness programmes conducted for the students to help them mature into good human beings.
