ART BASED THERAPY


An Art based therapy session was conducted by Mrs. Jyotsna Nair, an amateur artist and Mrs. Swati Iyengar an art based therapist for the boys of Bosco Boys Home, Borivali on 30 September.

Art is a form of expressive therapy that uses the creative process to resolve issues as well as develop and manage the behaviors, feelings, reduce stress, and improve self-esteem and awareness. The therapy started with a round of introductions explaining the help received through art to improve a person’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Around 30 Boys took part in this therapeutic session.

Mainly the art based therapy was divided into painting and drawing activities. The children were provided with blank drawing papers to draw along with three different shades of pencils for shading. It was a time for the young children to be trained and expand their artistic skills. The children were given freedom to choose any style – sketch, cartoon, line drawing, oil painting or water colors to convey their creative feeling to their sketch and to communicate themselves through their painting. The objective behind conducting this session was to bring out the competitive spirit amongst children, to help them to put across their emotion through drawing and to encourage them to be innovative and try new things.


Mrs Jyotsna shared “I am an amateur artist. I came to know about Bosco Boys Home from my freind Swati Iyengar . She told me there were boys here who were keen to learn art and asked me whether I would take a class and I readily agreed. This was my first time at a school among boys and I wasn’t sure how the session would go. I was so pleasantly surprised at their immediate acceptance of me as teacher, their interest and curiosity about everything. They properly followed instructions and poured their creativity and their faults on the papers. I can see so much potential in these boys and their ability. With training and practice and proper support these children will do something amazing in this world and I will definitely follow their journey.”
 
The feedback received from the Boys was very heartening and they were indebted for both teachers who used their valuable time to skilled them in this innovative art. Master Dhruv Geria a Std. 7th boy said “Through this beautiful art I can express my feeling that shows my various emotions: good, bad, scared or anxiety. I enjoyed drawing different objects and was very delighted that Didi trained me in ‘different skill of art’ in a very effortless way. Art inspires me to use my creativity and increases my concentration to sit at one place for longer hours. Art connects what words cannot.”

MEDICAL SOCIAL AWARENESS HEALTH CAMP ON COMMON SKIN INFECTIONS     MUMBAI, SEPTEMBER 28, 2019:   On September 28, 2019, The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai R-Central ward, Borivali West, Mumbai in collaboration with Bosco Boys Home (BBH) organised a Medical social awareness health camp to administer to the boys and the staff of BBH, the awareness about the spread of the Common skin infections like fungus, scabies and leprosy, etc. The resource persons for the sessions were Dr. Vijaya Ahire, Dr. Priya Deokar both Asst. Medical Officer MCGM and Mrs. Nilima Dharmangaonkar a Skin Technician. Father Corlis Gonsalves, Rector of the institute, welcomed the team of Doctors and the team.
